In the last few weeks we have seen the high profile launch of the Instagram for Android app and the subsequent buy out of Instagram by Facebook for a cool $1 billion. It may be a coincidence but it seems to me that Facebook felt that for them to continue to own photo-sharing, they had to own Instagram and the android app brought Instagram to far too many Facebook users.

This got me to thinking about the app market. Right now it is fair to say that iPhone and iPad are still the attack brands for app development. However is this changing, is the affordability of Android devices and the abundance of choice in the handset market slowly creating a groundswell of support for more apps on Android and a higher valuation of Android users? Is affordable chic making the android cool?
